Learning Zone - PSHE and Citizenship
What is Citizenship?
Through PSHE & Citizenship we encourage the children to develop as responsible, caring and enthusiastic members of our school community, taking a pride in both themselves and their achievements. We have a School Council with elected representatives from across the school.
Kensington is part of the health promoting Schools Project, and aspects of health education are addressed in each year group. Year 6 children study a unit of work on 'Healthy Living' and as part of this, they watch a video programme 'What Next'. Parents are invited to see the teaching materials and ask questions. The subject is not taught separately but is included in cross-curricular themes and will always be placed in the context of a normal loving family relationship.
The Governors have a policy on sex education where teachers are encouraged to deal factually, honestly and clearly with children's questions. The teaching offered is complementary to and supportive of the role of parents. A copy of this policy is available on request.
